Duties of the Mission Commander
The Mission Commander is the leader responsible for executing the project, appointed by the Deliberative Council of the legal entity in charge (AMME). They will perform the following functions and activities:
- Management and Execution: Oversee the coordination, management, presentation, delegation of responsibilities, preaching, and monitoring of the Expedition America for Christ.
- Autonomy: Authorized to speak and act on behalf of the responsible legal entity and its partners.
- Administrative Control: Maintain administrative and leadership control to avoid deviations from the objectives, even if well-intentioned.
- Oversight: Monitor delegated functions to ensure adherence to the project without being overly controlling.
- Project Adjustment: Review, adjust, or modify the project based on suggestions, needs, and challenges encountered, while maintaining core objectives such as specific missions for military and security professionals and general missions.
- Consultation: Seek advice from the Advisory Council, consult the Lord, and decide whether to adhere to it.
- Suggestions: Accept suggestions from any partner, not just the Council, and submit them to the Lord before making a decision.
- Team Management: Choose, appoint, and dismiss team members or individuals.
- Successor: Appoint a successor or replacement.
- Performance Evaluation: Assess performance to ensure merit-based compensation.
- Accountability: Report to the appointing legal entity and maintaining or executing partners.
- Project Success: Strive for the best possible outcomes to serve as a global benchmark.
Detailed Activities of the Mission Commander:
- Morning: No external agenda. Time reserved for prayer, navigating social networks, reading, responding to and delegating tasks, project review and adjustment, video recording, and studying Spanish and English.
- Afternoon and Evening: External agenda including lectures for associations, specific meetings, church services, visits, and partnership formation.
Routine and Daily Tasks:
- Daily Prayer: Two to three hours of prayer.
- Fasting: Daily alternating fasts including food, drink, or other personal sacrifices.
- Agenda Review: Regular review and adjustment of the agenda and parts of the project, without perfectionism.
- Logbook: Maintain a logbook for documenting activities.
- Concept Evaluation: Evaluate project concepts.
- Historical Legacy: Document historical legacy beyond the logbook.
- File Review: Reserve time for reviewing files.
- Motivation: Maintain motivation as a driving force.
Requirements for the Mission Commander and Successor:
- Experience: Demonstrated experience, strong curriculum, and performance in MCFs.
- Administration and Leadership: Proven history in spiritual leadership and administration.
- Trust: Gained trust and approval from close spiritual associates.
- Council Approval: Acceptance by the project's Council.
- Reputation: Good reputation within family, profession, society, and church.
- Clear Record: No disqualifying issues.
- Commitment: Strong commitment to the mission.
- Religious Diversity: Ability to work well with religious diversity, institutional chaplaincies, and principles of a secular state.
- Military or Security Background: Must be a military or security professional.
- Additional Criteria: Other requirements as deemed necessary by the commander.
