Professional Oath Applied to Faith
Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.”
We, military and security professionals, have taken a professional oath: ... if necessary, with the sacrifice of our own lives... May this very example also be applied to our faith. Let us have the courage to defend the faith just as we defend society. In our profession, we sacrifice our living, or rather, one of our most precious assets: time, family comfort, and social interaction. We can include the sacrifice of our own lives, as many have had their lives taken by criminals, meaning they died in the line of duty.
We have many examples of sacrifice in faith: the Lord Jesus Christ, the apostles, the church fathers, and many others who were valiant soldiers, not retreating from the front of spiritual warfare, but were martyred for their faith. In Hebrews 10:38, we learn that the Lord takes no pleasure in those who shrink back.
